Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, the remake of the iconic 2004 stealth-action game, is finally out. The game brings back the fan-favorite Metal Gear Solid 3 with modern graphics, new controls, and enhanced audio, but without the involvement of its original creator, Hideo Kojima.
Kojima left Konami in 2015 after a highly publicized fallout, reportedly over the massive cost of developing Metal Gear Solid V. Despite its success, the split was bitter. Kojima was even barred from accepting awards for the game, and shortly after, he left to form his own studio.
Since then, Konami stepped away from console gaming to focus on mobile games and pachinko machines. But with the recent success of remakes like Resident Evil 4 and Final Fantasy VII, the company has shifted back, betting on nostalgia to revive its most famous franchises.
Metal Gear Solid Delta is a faithful recreation. It keeps the original voice acting and allows players to choose between classic or modern control styles. Visually, the jungle setting is now hyper-realistic, thanks to Unreal Engine 5. The result is a cinematic experience that stays true to the game’s legacy.
Fans and critics alike have praised the remake. Longtime players say it captures the original’s emotion and style, while newcomers can jump in with no prior knowledge. Metal Gear Solid 3 was the first prequel in the series and stands on its own in terms of story.
The remake also brings back quirky extras from the original, including mini-games like Snake vs Monkey. Even small details, like the in-game posters, have been updated while staying true to the spirit of the old version.
Not everything is perfect. Some players have reported minor bugs, including odd crashes involving crocodiles and occasional camera glitches. But overall, early reviews are positive, highlighting the careful attention to the original game’s tone and structure.
Kojima has said he won’t play the remake, but many believe his influence still runs deep in the design. Fans note that while Konami built the remake, Kojima’s creative DNA is still all over the experience.
Metal Gear Solid Delta shows that a classic can return strong, even without its legendary creator. For fans, it’s a welcome revival. For Konami, it’s a chance to re-enter the console market by honoring the past.
