Pokémon UNITE has welcomed Empoleon, the Emperor Pokémon, to its roster, giving trainers another powerful Water- and Steel-type to use on Aeos Island. Players start each match as Piplup, evolve into Prinplup, and finally reach Empoleon, unlocking stronger moves and abilities with each stage.
Empoleon is classified as a Melee All-Rounder, bringing both speed and resilience to battles. Its special ability, Torrent, builds up a gauge as it deals damage or over time. When the gauge passes a certain threshold, Empoleon’s moves are boosted, providing stronger effects. The gauge builds faster when its HP drops below a set point, giving Empoleon more power in clutch situations.
Early in the game, Piplup has access to moves like Peck and Water Gun, both of which can be boosted by Torrent to inflict additional effects such as slowing enemies or dealing increased damage. At level 5, players choose between Metal Claw, which adds shielding when boosted, or Aqua Jet, which enhances attack speed and lowers enemy Sp. Def when empowered.
By level 7, Empoleon can unlock Hydro Cannon, a ranged water blast that disables enemies and creates a damaging whirlpool when boosted, or Whirlpool, a close-range move that damages and heals while throwing opponents back. Both moves can be upgraded to enhance cooldowns, healing, or damage.
Empoleon’s Unite Move, Sovereign Slide, sees it dash forward at high speed, creating a whirlpool upon impact that damages, throws, and slows enemies caught inside. While the whirlpool is active, Empoleon builds Torrent energy faster, letting it chain boosted moves together in the heat of battle.
With its mix of durability, offensive power, and boosted move mechanics, Empoleon is designed to be a versatile pick for players who enjoy a balance of survivability and aggressive play. Trainers can purchase its Unite License now in the game.
