Ayaneo has announced the Pocket Air Mini, a new Android-based retro gaming handheld that brings back the classic 4:3 aspect ratio for older emulated titles. The device is designed to give gamers a more authentic experience, filling the screen without black bars.
The Pocket Air Mini features a 4.2-inch display with a resolution of 1280×960 at 60Hz, offering 500 nits of brightness and 123% sRGB coverage with professional color calibration. This makes it one of the few handhelds tailored specifically for retro gaming visuals.
Under the hood, the device runs on a MediaTek Helio G90T processor, supported by active cooling via a built-in fan to maintain performance during longer sessions. While the chip is several years old, it should be more than capable of handling retro emulators.
The handheld is compact at just 6.5 inches wide and weighing 269 grams. It uses RGB Hall effect joysticks, Hall triggers, conductive rubber ABXY buttons, and a classic D-pad, giving it a nostalgic but modernized feel. For connectivity, it includes USB-C, a 3.5mm headphone jack, microSD expansion, Wi-Fi 5, and Bluetooth 5. Powering the system is a 4,500mAh battery.
Running on Android 11 with Ayaneo’s custom retro-focused software, the Pocket Air Mini provides easy access to emulators and game libraries, making it user-friendly for retro enthusiasts.
The device will be available in two configurations:
- 2GB RAM + 32GB storage for $70 (around ₱4,100 before taxes and duties)
- 3GB RAM + 64GB storage for $80 (around ₱4,700 before taxes and duties)
It will launch in October in three colorways: Retro White, Aurora Black, and Retro Power.
