Valve looks ready to return to the VR space with a brand-new headset, and its possible name has just surfaced. The device, which has been going by the codename “Deckard,” may officially launch under the name Steam Frame, according to a new trademark filing by Valve.
Steam Frame is expected to be the successor to the Valve Index, which first released back in 2019. Unlike the Index, this new model is rumored to be a standalone, wireless headset that will work with both Steam and the Steam Deck. While Valve has yet to confirm anything, most details so far have come from leaks and data miners digging into recent SteamVR updates.
One of the strongest clues comes from a newly registered trademark for “Steam Frame.” The filing covers a wide range of categories like computer hardware, networking, and multimedia streaming—pointing to a device that could handle both VR gaming and entertainment.
Datamining has also revealed multiple references to the word “Frame” inside SteamVR’s files, along with talk about “spatial gaming.” This suggests Valve might be preparing a bigger rebranding effort for its VR ecosystem, though some fans speculate Steam Frame could also refer to a new console.
Either way, expectations are high that Valve will release the headset before the end of 2025, with November looking like a likely launch window to match the holiday shopping season. Rumors also suggest a $1200 price tag, putting it in the premium range of VR devices.
For now, Valve remains silent, but with the trademark and software clues stacking up, an official announcement for Steam Frame could be just around the corner.
