Nintendo has just published its sales data for the fourth quarter of 2021. The Nintendo Switch, which has sold a total of 103.54 million units has now surpassed the Wii as the best-selling home console of Nintendo.
The Wii sold a total of 101.63 million total units in its lifetime before it was discontinued in 2013. The Nintendo Switch launched in 2017, and just completed this feat in 5 years. With the achievement, the Nintendo Switch also surpassed the original PlayStation which had 102.5 million units sold. Nintendo though, lowered its forecast for the console this fiscal year by 1 million units. It now expects 23 million units sold down from the 24 million forecast in November.
The Nintendo Switch now sits at 5th place among the best-selling consoles of all time, which is led by the Sony PlayStation 2 which sold more than 155 million units. Up next for the Switch to catch up to is the Sony PlayStation 4 which sits at 116.9 million units sold.
