Steam Will Stop Supporting Windows 10 32-Bit in 2026

PC gamers still using Windows 10 32-bit will soon have to say goodbye to Steam support. Valve announced that starting January 1, 2026, Steam will no longer run on Windows 10 32-bit systems. This makes it the last 32-bit Windows version that the platform is dropping.

Valve explained that Steam depends on newer system drivers and libraries that 32-bit Windows can no longer support. Because of this, users who want to keep playing their games smoothly should upgrade to a 64-bit operating system, either Windows 10 64-bit or Windows 11.

Microsoft itself has already set a timeline for Windows 10. Mainstream support will end on October 14, 2025, though users can still pay for extended security updates afterward. However, that won’t change the fact that many apps and games, including Steam, are moving on to 64-bit systems only.

The change will barely affect the current player base. In Steam’s August 2025 hardware survey, only 0.01 percent of users were still on Windows 10 32-bit. On the other hand, Windows 11 64-bit was the top choice with over 60 percent of users, while Windows 10 64-bit came second at 35 percent.

Gamers who don’t upgrade their PCs will no longer receive Steam updates or technical support. Some features may also stop working properly. Valve recommends that players update their systems before the cutoff date to avoid problems.

This marks the end of an era for 32-bit Windows users, as more modern games continue to push toward newer technology.
