Meta is rolling out major upgrades to Horizon Worlds, its Roblox-like social platform, with the goal of making the metaverse more appealing to both players and creators. To support creators, Meta also unveiled Horizon Studio, a new editor designed to make it easier to build custom VR worlds. Horizon Worlds, which originally launched as a VR-only platform before expanding to mobile, has struggled to gain mainstream traction. Earlier this year, the company also announced a $50 million creator fund to encourage development within Horizon Worlds. By improving graphics, performance, and creator accessibility, Meta hopes Horizon Worlds can finally grow into the vibrant virtual community it has long envisioned. Horizon Worlds, a virtual reality (VR) platform with a game creation system developed by Meta, has recently been teased to be having a web version. "While our new creator bonuses and in-world purchases tools are only testing with a handful of creators today, we’re also continuing to roll out more tools and support for all creators that make building new worlds even easier," Meta said in a statement. Meta spokesperson Iska Saric, however, noted that there are “no timing details to share at this time.” Formerly known as Facebook Horizon when it was first announced in 2019, Horizon Worlds had a limited release in the United States and Canada on December 9, 2021.
