What was once limited to browsers and mobile apps is now officially an on-console payment option, joining credit/debit cards and PayPal at checkout. With this update, players can simply select Apple Pay as their payment method during checkout, then scan a QR code displayed on the TV screen using an iPhone. The process, introduced with iOS 18’s QR-style payments, instantly opens a secure payment window on the phone where users can authorize the purchase with Face ID or Touch ID. As digital game libraries become more central to modern gaming, this move reinforces Sony’s intent to streamline transactions and give players more flexibility in how they pay — especially as mobile and console ecosystems continue to merge.
