The patent, titled "Operation Device," reveals Sony’s plans to embed photovoltaic elements—the same technology used in solar panels—into the structure of PlayStation controllers. Sony’s proposal could position the PlayStation brand as a leader in green gaming innovation—something no other major console manufacturer has yet seriously pursued. Sony’s PlayStation Stars loyalty program is back in the spotlight, this time for reinstating a fan-favorite reward: wallet funds. As the year draws to a close, many PlayStation fans had been hoping for one last major showcase or State of Play event to cap off an eventful 2024. However, gaming industry insider Jeff Grubb recently shared on social media that he hasn’t heard anything indicating an upcoming PlayStation Showcase or State of Play for December, dashing some fans’ expectations for a year-end blowout.
