Nintendo has just published its sales data for the fourth quarter of 2021. The Nintendo Switch, which has sold a total of 103.54 million units has now surpassed the Wii as the best-selling home console of Nintendo. The Nintendo Switch launched in 2017, and just completed this feat in 5 years. With the achievement, the Nintendo Switch also surpassed the original PlayStation which had 102.5 million units sold. The Nintendo Switch now sits at 5th place among the best-selling consoles of all time, which is led by the Sony PlayStation 2 which sold more than 155 million units. Nintendo is sticking to its decision on the price of the new Switch 2, even after being asked if it’s too pricey for younger gamers. In response, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa explained that while the Switch 2 is more expensive than older consoles, it offers better features and a more exciting gaming experience. But even with strong sales, Nintendo is still working to meet demand as many stores continue to sell out.
