Epic on Friday, June 17, released developer tools enabling cross-play between Steam and Epic Games Store. Furthermore, SDK 1.15 also introduces account linking with Steam to an ‘Epic Proxy account’ wherein players are basically setting up an Epic Games account “created under the hood for their Steam account” without all the hassle of going through the registration process. This interestingly sounded as if Steam players were hopping into the Epic ecosystem in the name of convenience. And a win to Epic too as more users onboarding to Epic Games, while gaining access to player bases from other platforms like Steam. Microsoft is reportedly developing an update for its Xbox app that will allow users to view and access their game libraries from platforms like Steam and the Epic Games Store. Valve has announced that Steam users in the United Kingdom will now need to link a credit card to their account if they want to access games or pages marked with “mature content.” This move is part of Valve’s compliance with the UK’s Online Safety Act, which enforces stricter age verification for online platforms.
