The MPL Philippines Season 16 kicked off with a bang, giving fans exciting plays and plenty of drama on opening day. Two best-of-three series set the tone, as Smart Omega clashed with TNC, followed by Falcons AP Bren against Rora Esports.
Smart Omega showed why they remain one of the most unpredictable teams. In Game 1, Raizen carried with his Fanny, slicing through TNC with the most damage. TNC answered back in Game 2 thanks to BennyQT’s Moskov, who turned the tide during the late game. But Omega bounced back in the deciding Game 3, outdrafting and outplaying TNC to secure the series win, 2-1.
The second series saw Falcons AP Bren pull off a shocking comeback in Game 1, overcoming a 10,000 gold deficit. Super Marco’s Moskov was unstoppable, proving too slippery and too powerful without enough burst damage from Rora. In Game 2, Falcons kept their momentum and finished the sweep, 2-0. For Rora, it was a rough start, but new roamer Light, who came from MPL Indonesia, is still adjusting to the team. Meanwhile, Ferds impressed in his debut as a substitute for FlapTzy, showing promising potential despite the loss.
Meanwhile, stars like Edward and DemonKite are taking the new season as a fresh start, choosing to reset their mindset and focus on proving themselves again rather than relying on past titles.
The action continues today as MPL PH heads into its second day. The spotlight will be on the final match of the day, which is a rematch of last season’s grand finals: Team Liquid PH vs. ONIC Philippines. Fans are eager to see if Liquid can defend their crown or if ONIC will get their revenge.
With Day 1 already setting the bar high, MPL PH Season 16 is shaping up to be one of the most exciting seasons yet.
