Mobile Game Warcraft Rumble to Stop New Content as Blizzard Shifts Focus

Listen to article

Blizzard has announced that it is no longer developing new content for its mobile game Warcraft Rumble. While the game will still receive bug fixes and seasonal in-game events, players should not expect any major updates moving forward.

This decision follows Microsoft’s large-scale layoffs, which affected around 9,000 employees. Around 100 Blizzard developers were impacted, and many of them worked on Warcraft Rumble. With a smaller team remaining, Blizzard has decided to shift its focus away from expanding the game further.

According to the company, Warcraft Rumble struggled to meet its goals. Even though the developers responded to player feedback and released several updates, it was not enough to keep the game growing in a sustainable way.

The game was Blizzard’s first mobile-only title set in the Warcraft universe. It was released in 2023 after spending nearly nine years in development. At one point, Blizzard was also working on a second mobile game similar to Pokémon Go, but that project was canceled in 2022 before it was officially revealed.

This move puts Warcraft Rumble in the same category as other Blizzard games that have stopped receiving updates, such as Starcraft II and Heroes of the Storm.

In related news, Xbox also revealed the cancellation of other projects including Everwild and the Perfect Dark remake. The company also closed The Initiative, the studio that was working on the remake.

Fans of Warcraft Rumble can still enjoy the game, but its future will now be limited to maintenance and small seasonal changes.
