Plague Inc. creator issues statement on the current coronavirus outbreak

Ndemic Creations, a game studio based in the UK, and creators of the popular Plague Inc. game, has issued a statement on the current coronavirus outbreak in China.

The company revealed that they see an increase in players on Plague, Inc., a game that was released in 2012, whenever there is an outbreak of disease. In this case, it’s the Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV), which, according to WHO’s January 24, 2020 situation report, has reached 846 confirmed cases. 830 of these cases were reported from China.

“Plague Inc. has been out for eight years now and whenever there is an outbreak of disease we see an increase in players, as people seek to find out more about how diseases spread and to understand the complexities of viral outbreaks.”

Plague Inc. is known for its realistic and informative gameplay and was recognized by the CDC in 2013 for raising awareness on health issues. The company, however, highly recommends that players get their information about the disease directly from health authorities.

“Please remember that Plague Inc. is a game, not a scientific model and that the current coronavirus outbreak is a very real situation which is impacting a huge number of people. We would always recommend that players get their information directly from local and global health authorities.”
