The Sony PS5 and Microsoft Xbox Series X’s public release is right around the corner, but let’s set these modern consoles aside for now because, in this article, we will be checking out retro consoles that you might want to consider checking out.

Retro Experience

If you are all about the retro experience and miss the classic gaming experience, you can play on Nintendo 64, Atari 7800, and alike, you should buy an old game console. Although franchises still mimic these old graphic styles on their games with today’s modern gaming consoles, playing games like The Legend of Zelda and Pacman on an old console can give you a whole lot more different gaming experience.

No Frills

Nowadays, almost all console games, aside from being a bit pricey, they have game passes, in-game purchases to make your gaming experience more enjoyable. It is a gamble, especially if they are hooked on a game. However, there’s nothing wrong with it, since at the end of the day it is your money — or your parent’s money. But if you miss those games where you can play without spending a dime on getting the full experience, then definitely, there’s nothing wrong with getting an older gaming console.

Price

Aside from spending from PHP 10,000 and more for a modern gaming console, you have to purchase games separately, unlike before, there are games included when you buy one. One of the things why you should buy an old console, is because they are cheap. You can find good deals online like on Facebook Marketplace, and even on Lazada or Shopee, but note that if you are looking for iconic gaming consoles like the Sony PlayStation Classic, NES Classic Edition, and alike they are not easy to find but still prices of these consoles are still pretty affordable.

Hackable

Some companies already stopped supporting their old gaming consoles. They don’t care if users of these consoles today do some hacking on their machines, access features that weren’t available, or hidden on these consoles. Although the process might be a little more complicated, it sure is worth the effort if done correctly. Hacking these devices is the same as jailbreaking old iPhones; you can do a lot with it, although it might void your warranty — if there is, so keep that in mind.
