Elon Musk Caught Boosting in Diablo 4 and Path of Exile 2, Developers Silent

In a surprising turn of events, tech mogul Elon Musk has openly admitted to engaging in account boosting for the popular action RPGs Diablo 4 and Path of Exile 2. This revelation has sparked a heated debate within the gaming community about the enforcement of game integrity and the potential consequences for high-profile players.

Screenshots from a private conversation between Musk and a YouTuber surfaced recently, revealing Musk’s confession to paying for account boosting—a practice where a player leverages another’s account to climb ranks illegitimately. This admission has led fans to question whether major developers Blizzard Entertainment and Grinding Gear Games (GGG) will take action against Musk’s accounts to maintain fair play standards.

Blizzard’s End User License Agreement explicitly prohibits account boosting and power-leveling for payment, aiming to preserve the competitive balance and integrity of their games. Similarly, Grinding Gear Games has stringent policies against such practices in Path of Exile 2. Despite these clear guidelines, both companies have chosen not to comment on Musk’s specific case. When reached out to by IGN, both Blizzard and GGG declined to provide statements, citing their policy of not discussing individual account actions.

The gaming community has voiced its frustration and disappointment over Musk’s actions. On Path of Exile’s official forums, players expressed concerns that allowing billionaires like Musk to bypass the rules undermines the game’s fairness. “So now billionaires can buy their way to the top of the HC ladder as a vanity project like owning a football club. Are the TOS not being enforced even when openly broken?” one frustrated player commented.

Similarly, Battle.net users have echoed these sentiments, questioning why Musk’s admitted rule-breaking hasn’t led to account suspensions. “If boosting is against the rules, shouldn’t Elon Musk’s account get banned since he flat out admitted that he boosts his account?” a player asked on the platform.

Musk’s reputation as a formidable gamer has also been called into question. Despite his claims of being in the top 20 players in the world for Diablo 4 and having a high-level character in Path of Exile 2, many players doubt he has the time to achieve such ranks legitimately, given his extensive responsibilities as CEO of Tesla, SpaceX, and other ventures. Early livestreams showing Musk struggling with game mechanics further fueled speculation that he relied on boosting services to maintain his in-game status.

Adding to the controversy, Musk’s partner, musician Grimes, defended him on social media. She tweeted, “Just for my personal pride, I would like to state that the father of my children was the first American druid in Diablo to clear abattoir of zir and ended that season as best in the USA. He was also ranking in Polytopia, and beat Felix himself at the game. I did observe these things with my own eyes. There are other witnesses who can verify this. That is all.”

The debate intensified when Musk’s Path of Exile 2 character was active in the game during his attendance at Trump’s inauguration, leading to further allegations of cheating. As the gaming community awaits official responses from Blizzard and GGG, the incident highlights the ongoing challenges developers face in enforcing fair play, especially when dealing with high-profile individuals.
