A VTuber or virtual YouTuber refers to an online talent using a 2D or 3D avatar as alter ego in creating content. With GTA VI set to launch in fall 2025, Rockstar Games is reportedly going all-in on user-generated content, aiming to bring in creators from Roblox, Fortnite, and even its own GTA Online community to help shape custom experiences within the game. A new report from Digiday suggests that Rockstar is actively engaging with well-known modders and content creators to ensure that GTA VI remains a long-term juggernaut in the gaming industry, much like its predecessor. Rockstar initially took a hard stance against these mods, banning some of their creators back in 2015 for what it deemed to be unauthorized multiplayer services. Rockstar’s interest in user-generated content aligns with the strategies of gaming giants like Roblox, Fortnite, and Minecraft, all of which have sustained high player engagement by fostering communities of creators who build their own worlds and game modes. By securing creator partnerships ahead of GTA VI’s launch, the company could ensure a thriving, ever-evolving multiplayer experience right from the start. It remains unclear how user-generated content will be integrated into GTA VI. While Rockstar could be developing official tools to allow creators to build within the game, it’s also possible that the company is looking to refine and expand upon the role-playing and multiplayer experiences that mods like FiveM have already popularized.
