GTA 6 Trailer Hints at Female Cops for the First Time

Grand Theft Auto 6 is shaping up to be Rockstar’s most ambitious game yet, and fans think they’ve spotted something new in its second trailer: female police officers. Released in May, the trailer shows what looks like women in police uniforms, and this detail has sparked excitement across the community.

For years, GTA players have pointed out the lack of female cops in the franchise. While the games often feature female characters in storylines, the random police NPCs seen on the streets or during raids have mostly been male. The only notable exceptions were minor appearances like Barbara Schternvart in San Andreas or Vasquez in GTA 5’s promotional art. However, they were never common in regular gameplay.

In reality, women make up about 12% of police officers in the US, or more than 96,000 in total. Fans argue that including female cops in GTA 6 makes the game’s Florida-inspired world feel more realistic and immersive.

Why weren’t they included before? Some believe Rockstar avoided it to cut development costs, while others suggest it was to avoid controversy. After all, GTA’s open-world chaos often involves violent encounters with police, and the studio may have decided against adding female NPCs to steer clear of backlash.

Now, things seem to be changing. GTA 6 not only introduces Lucia, the franchise’s first female lead protagonist, but also appears to be adding women in different roles, from law enforcement to gangsters. If true, this marks a big shift in how the series builds its world. Fans will find out for sure when GTA 6 finally launches on May 26, 2026.
