The new game marks Riot’s bold entrance into the competitive trading card game (TCG) industry—a space dominated by hits like Magic: The Gathering, Yu-Gi-Oh!, and Pokémon TCG. The Origins set will debut with over 300 cards, featuring well-known champions like Annie, Garen, Jinx, Lee Sin, Lux, Master Yi, Viktor, Volibear, and Yasuo. The Proving Grounds Starter Deck will feature champions such as Lux, Annie, Master Yi, and Garen, giving newcomers a solid foundation. Riot’s foray into TCGs seems not just ambitious—but potentially game-changing. The Pokémon Company International has recently unveiled Pokémon TCG Live, a new app that will enable Trainers to play the Pokémon Trading Card Game through an updated digital format. Pokémon TCG Live is a free-to-play game, which will be playable on smartphones, tablets, PCs, and Macs. “As we look back on 25 wonderful years of Pokémon, we are once again reminded of how the Pokémon Trading Card Game has always been a strong pillar of the franchise and beloved by young and veteran Trainers alike,” said Barry Sams, Vice President of the Pokémon TCG at The Pokémon Company International. According to the company, Pokémon TCG Live is designed to be easy for beginners to learn how to play the game with new challenges for existing players to improve and test their skills.
