Sony has officially announced that Spider-Man 2, one of the most anticipated PlayStation 5 exclusives, will be coming to PC on January 30th, 2024. Originally a PS5 blockbuster, the game’s PC version will be available via Steam and the Epic Games Store, following Sony’s ongoing trend of bringing its top-tier exclusives to the PC platform.
Developed by Insomniac Games, Spider-Man 2 sees both Peter Parker and Miles Morales teaming up against iconic villains, providing an action-packed web-swinging experience set in a sprawling open-world New York City. Now, PC players will get the opportunity to experience the game, complete with all previously released downloadable content (DLC) and new additions.
PC-Specific Features
The PC port will include the full base game, along with New Game Plus mode, additional spider suits, and other DLC. But the standout features are the PC-specific upgrades. According to Mike Fitzgerald, Core Technology Director at Insomniac Games, players can expect enhanced graphical options, including advanced ray-tracing, ultra-widescreen support, and the ability to adjust various graphics settings to match different hardware capabilities. Keyboard and mouse support will also be part of the PC package, offering flexibility for how players choose to experience the game.
This port is being handled by Nixxes Software, a studio that has become known for its high-quality PC ports of Sony’s exclusives. Nixxes previously worked on the successful PC versions of the original Spider-Man, Miles Morales, and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, ensuring the PC port will be in capable hands.
A Fast Port for PlayStation
Spider-Man 2’s PC launch is notably one of the fastest ports from PlayStation 5 to PC, arriving less than two years after its original release on the PS5. This move is part of Sony’s ongoing strategy to reach more gamers by releasing its exclusive titles on additional platforms. Alongside Spider-Man 2, games like Ghost of Tsushima and Horizon Zero Dawn have also made the leap to PC, helping Sony expand its player base beyond console gaming.
Despite the excitement surrounding the port, Insomniac Games confirmed that no additional story content is planned for Spider-Man 2 on any platform, but players can look forward to replaying the game with all the improvements and customizations offered on PC.
As PlayStation continues to grow its PC catalog, fans of the Spider-Man series and PC gamers alike have something special to look forward to in 2024.
