Microsoft has launched a new AI-powered chatbot designed to help Xbox players quickly resolve support issues, now available for testing by Xbox Insiders in the US. Dubbed the “Xbox Support Virtual Agent,” this new tool aims to streamline support experiences for Xbox gamers, allowing them to find answers to common technical problems with both consoles and games. Initially revealed earlier this year, the chatbot is now ready for feedback from testers, which will be used to further refine the tool before its broader release.

Xbox Insiders can access the chatbot through the Xbox support website, where the AI responds as either an animated character or a dynamic, colorful Xbox orb, adding a touch of personality to the interaction. According to Megha Dudani, senior product manager lead at Xbox, feedback from the Xbox community is essential to ensure the chatbot meets user needs and provides a smooth, intuitive experience. The bot has been developed to handle frequently asked questions and assist with troubleshooting steps, reducing the need for users to wait on live support.

This AI-powered support tool represents Microsoft’s larger focus on AI across its services, including Xbox. While Microsoft has already integrated AI into several business tools, this marks a shift toward enhancing consumer experiences on its gaming platform. The Xbox division has taken a more measured approach to AI, despite CEO Satya Nadella’s broader company-wide mandate to prioritize AI integration. The Xbox team’s focus has so far been on developer-facing tools, but this chatbot is among the first consumer-facing AI products designed to improve everyday interactions for gamers.

The introduction of the Xbox Support Virtual Agent is a sign that more AI-powered features may soon be coming to Xbox consoles themselves. Microsoft has been developing several AI-enhanced features for its gaming ecosystem, and the chatbot could pave the way for more advanced tools to assist players. For now, Microsoft encourages Xbox Insiders to try out the new chatbot and provide feedback to help shape its future capabilities.
