EA Pulls Plants Vs Zombies 3 From Soft Launch for Major Overhaul, Servers to Close November 15

EA has announced that Plants Vs Zombies 3 is being temporarily pulled from its soft launch, but fans of the popular tower defense series need not worry—this is only to give the development team time to make significant improvements. As reported by Mobilegamer.biz, the game has been removed from the App Store and Google Play, but players who already have it downloaded will still be able to enjoy the game until November 15, when the servers will officially shut down.

According to a blog post from the developers, the decision to pull Plants Vs Zombies 3 was made in order to give the team time to rework several core mechanics and improve the overall experience. This marks the second time the game has been taken down since its initial soft launch attempt in 2020, which was followed by another soft launch in January 2023. EA and the developers seem determined to get the formula right before releasing the full version globally.

For those who currently have access to the game, in-app purchases have been disabled as of today, and any remaining coins in player accounts will be saved if the game is linked to a Google Play, Apple ID, or EA Account. However, players will lose any boosts or progress they’ve made once the updated version of Plants Vs Zombies 3 is released. Although there is no specific release date for the revamped game, EA promises it will return “soon.”

The Plants Vs Zombies franchise has been a long-standing favorite in the mobile gaming world, thanks to its unique blend of strategy, humor, and charming art style. However, Plants Vs Zombies 3 has been a more challenging project for EA. While the earlier soft launch showed promise, many players—including those who previewed the game—found it lacking in difficulty and challenge. In its current state, some players reported breezing through levels without much thought, which led to a lack of long-term engagement.

Still, EA clearly believes in the potential of the third installment and is committed to delivering a polished experience. By taking the time to refine the game now, the developers hope to meet the high expectations set by its predecessors and reinvigorate the franchise for both new and returning players.

If you’ve already downloaded Plants Vs Zombies 3, make sure to enjoy the game while it lasts, as you only have until November 15 to fend off zombies with your plants. After that, all progress will be reset, but your currency will remain intact for the next iteration of the game.

Stay tuned for more updates on Plants Vs Zombies 3, as EA works toward bringing a reworked and refreshed version to mobile devices in the near future.
