Microsoft is continuing its push to make Xbox gaming more accessible than ever—this time by bringing the Xbox app to LG smart TVs. Starting today, owners of select LG TVs can stream Xbox games directly from the cloud, no console required.
The Xbox app is now available on LG’s 2022 OLED TVs, select 2023 smart TVs, and newer models equipped with webOS24 or higher. Users simply need to download the Xbox app from the LG Content Store, connect a Bluetooth-enabled controller, and subscribe to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate to jump into a growing library of cloud-enabled titles.
This rollout follows Microsoft’s earlier expansion onto Samsung smart TVs, and it’s part of the company’s broader vision to turn every screen into an Xbox. The Xbox TV app allows for a near-console experience, offering high-quality visuals and responsive gameplay over the cloud—ideal for gamers who don’t own a physical Xbox console.
For the latest 2025 LG models, including new OLEDs and gaming monitors, the Xbox app is integrated directly into the LG Gaming Portal, providing seamless access right out of the box. Meanwhile, for 2022 and 2023 models, users may need to update their firmware before the app becomes fully functional.
Support for LG’s popular portable StanbyME screen is also on the way, expanding the ecosystem beyond traditional TV formats. This addition is especially promising for gamers looking for a more flexible, on-the-go gaming setup.
The app interface mirrors what players have come to expect from Xbox Cloud Gaming on browsers and mobile—quick navigation, personalized game suggestions, and the full Game Pass Ultimate library. With a strong internet connection and a controller, players can explore major Xbox titles such as Starfield, Forza Horizon 5, Halo Infinite, and Minecraft Legends without touching a console.
Microsoft’s strategy here is clear: expand the Xbox brand far beyond the confines of a physical box. The company has stated repeatedly that it views “every screen as a potential Xbox,” and this LG partnership reinforces that mantra. With smart TVs becoming increasingly common, especially among tech-savvy gamers, the decision to bring cloud gaming to these devices helps lower the barrier to entry for high-end gaming experiences.
As the cloud gaming market continues to grow, Microsoft’s Xbox TV app could become a central piece in redefining how players access and interact with video games. No more cables, no more boxes—just pick up a controller and play.
