Overwatch 2 x Gundam Wing Crossover Leaks Ahead of Official Reveal, Launch Expected April 25

The world of Overwatch 2 is gearing up for a high-tech crossover, as trusted leakers have revealed a collaboration with the legendary mecha anime Gundam Wing. The leak, which surfaced via social media posts from reliable sources in the Overwatch community, hints at a range of anime-inspired skins and cosmetics expected to launch as part of Season 16—coinciding with Gundam Wing‘s 30th anniversary on April 25, 2025.

While Season 16 already introduced new gameplay updates and anime-themed cosmetics, this surprise crossover is set to dive even deeper into fan service for anime and mecha lovers alike. According to dataminer Llamalaxy and former Blizzard employee OverwatchNaeri, four new skins are slated to arrive based on iconic Gundam suits:

  • Mercy: Wing Gundam – A skin modeled after Heero Yuy’s Wing Gundam, with flying elements that match Mercy’s airborne playstyle.
  • Ramattra: Heavyarms – Inspired by the heavy artillery-focused Gundam Heavyarms, this design emphasizes firepower and long-range dominance.
  • Reaper: Deathscythe – Matching the assassin-like aesthetic of Gundam Deathscythe, this skin leans into Reaper’s stealth and lethality.
  • Soldier 76: Tallgeese – A nod to the Tallgeese mobile suit, this skin features a bulkier, high-durability look that plays into Soldier’s balanced combat style.

While these skins are the highlight of the leak, additional themed cosmetics such as sprays, player icons, and emotes may also be part of the bundle. Speculation also points to a limited-time event, though Blizzard has yet to officially announce any details.

Fan reactions have been mixed. Some Overwatch 2 players are excited about the detailed anime crossovers, while others expressed fatigue at yet another high-profile skin being given to Mercy, who already receives frequent cosmetic updates. Many fans questioned why Pharah or Echo—both aerial heroes—weren’t chosen for the Wing Gundam-inspired look.

Despite the criticism, the skins are already generating buzz across the community for their design quality and nostalgic appeal. With Gundam Wing celebrating its 30th anniversary, the timing of this crossover feels intentional and well-aligned for both franchises.

Blizzard hasn’t formally confirmed the crossover, but its official X account recently replied to Gundam Wing’s anniversary teaser, stoking anticipation and all but confirming the partnership.

If the leak holds true, players can expect the Gundam Wing collaboration to land in-game on April 25, with premium skins and event content likely available through the in-game shop or as part of a themed bundle. Whether you’re a Gundam pilot or an Overwatch veteran, this is one crossover that blends nostalgia, style, and gameplay flair.
