Epic Games has announced plans to bring its popular free games program to mobile devices by the end of 2024, expanding beyond its current PC offerings. This move will introduce a variety of free-to-play titles to mobile platforms, including Android, where competition with established stores like Google Play is already fierce.
According to Steve Allison, general manager at Epic Games, the company plans to launch up to 50 games on its mobile app store by year’s end. The announcement was made during a roundtable discussion at Unreal Fest, as reported by mobilegamer.biz. One of the first titles expected to debut is Ark: Ultimate Mobile Edition, signaling Epic’s commitment to delivering high-quality games to mobile users.
While this expansion is an exciting development for mobile gamers, Allison noted that Epic Games is still working on a payment solution for the platform, which could slightly delay the full rollout. Despite this, the company remains confident in bringing its vision to life within the promised timeline.
Beyond adding third-party games to the mobile app store, Epic Games is also focusing on creating a more social and connected experience for players. Features like in-game chat and cross-platform compatibility, similar to those found on the PC version of the store, will allow mobile gamers to team up with friends on different devices.
In addition, Epic Games is developing self-publishing tools that will enable developers to launch their games on the platform without direct involvement from the company. This feature will streamline the process for independent developers to get their games onto the Epic Games Store, further diversifying the mobile gaming landscape.
