Samsung is finally entering the PCIe Gen 5 SSD market with its new 9100 Pro series, set to launch in March 2025. This marks Samsung’s first NVMe 2.0 consumer SSD, arriving in 1TB ($199.99 / ~₱11,000), 2TB ($299.99 / ~₱16,500), and 4TB ($549.99 / ~₱30,000) configurations, all in an M.2 form factor with or without heatsinks. The biggest highlight? An 8TB model—a first for Samsung—will debut in late 2025, offering massive storage for high-end users.
The 9100 Pro brings significant speed upgrades, boasting up to 2,200K IOPS for random reads and 2,600K IOPS for random writes, twice as fast as the previous-gen Samsung 980 Pro (PCIe Gen 4). While gaming might not see a dramatic performance boost, heavy workloads like video editing, software development, and large data transfers will benefit from its blistering speeds.
Samsung claims sequential read speeds of up to 14.8GBps and write speeds of 13.4GBps, making the 9100 Pro one of the fastest consumer SSDs yet. Compared to early PCIe 5 SSDs from Seagate and Crucial, this new drive adds an extra 2-3GBps per second of speed, pushing storage performance to new heights.
With PCIe Gen 6 still on the horizon, Samsung’s 9100 Pro series is a serious option for future-proofing high-performance PCs. Whether you’re upgrading your gaming rig, building a workstation, or just looking for lightning-fast storage, this SSD lineup delivers next-gen performance.
