MSI Claw A8 Unveils AMD Power for Next-Gen PC Gaming Handheld

MSI has tapped AMD for its newest Claw handheld, the Claw A8 BZ2EM, unveiled at Computex 2025. Departing from the Intel chips of previous models, the Claw A8 runs on AMD’s latest Ryzen Z2 Extreme APU, promising desktop-class performance in an eight-inch portable form factor. Early benchmarks suggest a notable boost in graphics workloads compared to the Intel-powered Claw 8 AI Plus, making it a compelling option for gamers on the go.

Under the hood, the Claw A8 pairs its Ryzen Z2 Extreme with up to 24 GB of DDR5-5600 memory and a roomy 1 TB M.2 NVMe SSD. Its eight-inch Full HD display outputs at a smooth 120 Hz, perfect for fast-paced shooters or high-frame-rate RPGs. Connectivity includes Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, two full-size USB-C ports (one with DisplayPort Alt Mode), and a 3.5 mm combo audio jack—ensuring it can plug into monitors, docks, or headsets without fuss.

MSI complements the hardware with a pair of tactile analog sticks, mechanical shoulder buttons, and a clickable touchpad for precision aiming. The unit’s beefy 50 Wh battery is rated for up to four hours of continuous gameplay, depending on title and settings—a slight trade-off for its raw power but typical for the current generation of PC handhelds. Cooling is handled by a dual-fan system and heat pipes, keeping thermals in check even under sustained load.

Beyond specs, the Claw A8 embraces bold style with white and lime-green chassis options, continuing MSI’s gamer-centric aesthetic. Its launch rivals include Lenovo’s Legion Go S (powered by AMD’s weaker Z2 Go chip) and Valve’s Steam Deck, which still leads in battery life and price. MSI hasn’t announced pricing or availability yet, but analysts expect it to slot around the $1,000 mark, similar to the Claw 8 AI Plus. With AMD now in the mix, the Claw A8 aims to deliver a potent balance of portability and performance for PC gamers everywhere.
