Filipino Game Developers Shine at XDS 2024, Securing $14.7M in Sales

Thirteen Philippine gaming studios made waves at the External Development Summit (XDS) 2024, collectively generating an impressive $14.7 million in sales. Spearheaded by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), the delegation showcased the Philippines’ creative prowess and growing stature in the global game development scene during the event held from September 3 to 6.

XDS, recognized as the premier international conference for external video game development, drew participants from leading publishers, investors, and developers. This year, the Philippines fielded the largest delegation, spotlighting the country as a creative and reliable partner for game development services and co-production.

Among the 13 participating studios were prominent names like Animation Vertigo Asia, Amber Studios-Philippines, Pixel Mafia, and Synergy 88. The roster also included rising talents such as Exodia Game Development Studio, GameOps Inc., and Puppeteer Studios. Their offerings spanned a variety of services, from 2D and 3D animation to full-fledged game co-development.

DTI Secretary Cristina A. Roque lauded the delegation’s success as a testament to the Philippines’ growing reputation as a hub for world-class gaming talent. She highlighted the industry’s pivotal role in promoting “Bagong Pilipinas,” an initiative focused on inclusive and sustainable national development.

“The game development sector is not only a vital contributor to our services exports but also a driver for job creation and technological innovation. We are incredibly proud of how our developers showcased Filipino creativity and expertise on a global stage,” said Secretary Roque.

Undersecretary Cerefino S. Rodolfo of the DTI-Industry Development and Investment Promotions Group emphasized the Philippines’ evolution from a trusted service provider to a key partner in co-development projects. He noted that this shift reflects the country’s ambition to play a more creative and collaborative role in the global gaming industry.

The participation was made possible by the DTI-Export Marketing Bureau, the International Trade Center (ITC), and initiatives such as the Malikhaing Pinoy Program and ARISE Plus Philippines Project. ITC ARISE Plus Project Manager Camille Roy stressed the importance of continued capacity-building efforts to empower Filipino game developers to access broader international markets.

“These achievements underscore the demand for Filipino talent and services in the global gaming market. By building the sector’s capabilities and visibility, we are helping it soar to new heights,” said Roy.

The Philippine delegation’s success at XDS 2024 not only highlights the industry’s resilience but also reinforces its growing reputation as a key player in the global game development landscape.
