The Pokémon Company has announced a second installment to its Legends series, initially dubbed as Pokémon Legends Z-A. They particularly mentioned that the game is set in Lumiose City — a central city in the Kalos region from Pokémon X/Y and releases in 2025 as a Nintendo Switch release.
TPC announced the game in its 12-minute-long Pokémon Presents video, released on Pokémon Day February 27, 2024. In the trailer, the Lumiose City map is divided into five sections which suggests this city will be much bigger than we last saw it on the Nintendo 3DS in 2013.
This format also sways apart from what they did on the Pokémon Legends Arceus that let players explore the wild lands of the Hisui region. How will trainers catch wild ‘mons without tall grass? That’s a question we’re yet to have an answer.
Long-time fans have been eager to get a Pokémon Z as there have been unfinished storylines following the events of Pokémon X/Y. Additionally, Mega Evolution will make its return on this upcoming game.
Alongside the Pokémon Legends: Z-A, Pokémon Presents also revealed a brand-new mobile app for the its Trading Card Game (TCG) simply called the Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket.
This app aims to offer a quicker and more accessible experience than the traditional TCG, featuring “streamlined rules” for bite-sized battles that fit into your busy schedule. Additionally, the app boasts “immersive cards” that bring the artwork to life, like literally entering the card.
Opening card packs is clearly a major focus of the app, with the announcement trailer highlighting the satisfying feeling of digitally ripping open boosters. This emphasis suggests Creatures Inc., the team behind the Pokemon TCG, is striving to replicate the physical experience as closely as possible in the digital realm. Thankfully, players can also trade the cards they collect with friends, adding a social element to the experience.
While details are still emerging, the app seems designed to cater to both experienced players and newcomers. Creatures Inc. CEO Yuji Kitano emphasizes their commitment to “delivering a fun experience for those of you who already enjoy the Pokemon Trading Card Game as well as those who’ve never played before.”
The Pokémon TCG Pocket is slated for mobile release this 2024 for iOS and Android platforms.
