The Need for Speed franchise, known for its high-speed races and thrilling pursuits, is gearing up for a major update with Volume 9 for Unbound. Launching on November 26, the Lockdown update is set to make history by introducing the first-ever playable motorbike in the series, a major milestone after three decades of racing cars.

The new “Lockdown” multiplayer event is a high-stakes, team-based challenge that pits groups of players against each other in missions inspired by Need for Speed: Most Wanted. Teams of up to three players will square off against rival crews in a race to steal cars from “Lockup” zones. But it’s not just about getting the cars—players will need to extract them safely using an EMP-equipped truck, while avoiding the wrath of the Lakeshore Police Department’s own EMPs. These zones, known as the “Lockdown Zone,” will damage any vehicle caught within them, adding a new layer of intensity.

As part of the Lockdown event, 15 iconic vehicles have been added to the game’s “Hot Rides” list, including a standout—the custom BMW M3 GTR, made famous in Most Wanted. The game introduces the new BMW S 1000 RR 2019 motorbike, marking the first time players can ride a motorbike in Need for Speed. Not only will the bike avoid damage in the Lockdown Zone, but it will also be usable in dedicated motorbike playlists for free roam and PvP mode.

Volume 9 also delivers two highly anticipated cars—the Honda Integra Type R DC2 and Subaru Impreza WRX STI—both of which will be available in all modes. Additionally, a new Speed Pass has been introduced, offering 45 free tiers of rewards including new body kits, skins, and the coveted Impreza. For those who opt for the paid Speed Pass, an extra 30 tiers unlock even more exclusive rewards, including the Integra, custom “Lockdown Spec” cars, and the iconic 30th-anniversary edition of the BMW M3 GTR.

With this being the likely final major update for Unbound, the release also marks the conclusion of the game’s live service journey, signaling the potential for exciting new content or projects from the Need for Speed team in the future.
