F1 25 Accelerates Realism with LIDAR Tracks and Reverse Circuits

EA Sports and Codemasters are taking the Formula 1 gaming experience to the next level with F1 25, launching on May 30, 2025, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Fully optimized for next-gen consoles, F1 25 promises the most realistic and immersive F1 gameplay yet, introducing groundbreaking features that push both visual fidelity and gameplay depth.

One of the most notable additions is the use of LIDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) scanning technology. This advanced method allows developers to digitally recreate circuits with exceptional accuracy, capturing every bump, kerb, elevation change, and surface detail. At launch, five tracks will feature LIDAR scanning: Bahrain, Imola, Melbourne, Miami, and Suzuka. The result is an ultra-realistic driving experience that mirrors the real-world feel of these circuits. Developers have hinted that more LIDAR-scanned tracks may be added after launch, depending on player feedback and technical feasibility.

Another first for the series is the introduction of reverse circuit layouts. Selected tracks such as Red Bull Ring, Suzuka, and Zandvoort can now be raced in reverse, providing a fresh and exciting challenge for players familiar with the traditional layouts. This new feature adds variety to both single-player and multiplayer modes, encouraging drivers to adapt their strategies and master tracks from an entirely new perspective.

Customization is also getting a significant boost in F1 25. A revamped livery editor offers deeper design tools, allowing players to craft detailed and authentic-looking car liveries. This is especially useful for those who enjoy expressing creativity or replicating classic team designs. In addition to car customization, the game’s character models and animations have been enhanced through NVIDIA’s Audio2Face technology. This tool enables real-time facial animation based on voice input, leading to more expressive and lifelike characters during story scenes, interviews, and gameplay cutscenes.

The popular narrative-driven mode “Braking Point” makes a return, continuing the story of the fictional Konnersport Racing Team. This new chapter expands on the drama and career decisions faced by players as they navigate rivalries, team dynamics, and the pressures of the F1 world. Meanwhile, the My Team mode has evolved into My Team 2.0, offering a deeper managerial experience. Players can now access more strategic options, including a refined progression system and new Owner Perks—passive bonuses that influence various aspects of team performance, from research speed to public relations.

Notably, F1 25 will not be released on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One. This marks a full transition to current-gen platforms, allowing developers to harness more powerful hardware for improved physics, visual detail, and loading times. EA and Codemasters have made it clear that this decision was driven by a desire to fully realize the game’s technical potential without compromise.

Pre-orders are now available for both the Standard and Iconic Editions. The Iconic Edition, featuring Lewis Hamilton on the cover, includes exclusive car liveries, bonus content, and three days of early access starting May 27, 2025. With its mix of innovation, realism, and fan-favorite features, F1 25 is shaping up to be a major leap forward for the franchise—and a must-play for racing fans worldwide.
