Epic Games Teams Up with Telefónica to Bring Fortnite Back to Android Easily

Epic Games is making moves to improve accessibility for its games on mobile devices, particularly for Android users. The company has announced a new partnership with Telefónica, a leading telecommunications company, to pre-install the Epic Games Store app on all new Android devices sold by Telefónica. This deal will make it easier for players to download and play Fortnite, as well as other popular Epic Games titles like Fall Guys and Rocket League Sideswipe.

Since its launch in 2017, Fortnite has become a cultural phenomenon, thriving on PC and consoles. However, its journey on mobile devices has been less straightforward. The game was removed from both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store in 2020 due to disputes over revenue-sharing terms, sparking lawsuits between Epic Games and the tech giants. While iOS players in the European Union can now access Fortnite via the App Store, Android users have relied on downloading the Epic Games Store installer directly. This new agreement with Telefónica aims to streamline that process, offering players in Spain, Germany, the UK, and Spanish-speaking Latin American countries a more seamless experience.

A Step Toward Expanding Mobile Gaming

This partnership isn’t just about Fortnite. Telefónica’s Android users will also gain easier access to Fall Guys, the hit battle royale party game that debuted on mobile in 2024, and Rocket League Sideswipe, the mobile adaptation of the popular vehicular soccer game launched in 2021. Epic Games has hinted that this is just the beginning, promising additional benefits for Telefónica customers in 2025, including access to third-party games through the Epic Games Store app.

The deal signifies Epic’s ongoing commitment to mobile gaming, despite the challenges it has faced. By pre-installing the Epic Games Store on new Telefónica devices, Epic is not only broadening its reach but also ensuring players can quickly dive into their favorite games without the hassle of manual installations.

Fortnite’s Latest Updates and Collaborations

Meanwhile, Fortnite continues to captivate its player base with fresh updates and content. The recent addition of OG mode, which brings back the game’s original map and mechanics, has been a nostalgic hit among fans. Epic also introduced Ballistic mode, a fast-paced 5v5 tactical shooter that has quickly gained popularity alongside the battle royale experience.

Adding to its appeal, Fortnite recently partnered with global soccer icon Lionel Messi, unveiling exclusive skins and themed content. These collaborations, combined with regular updates, ensure Fortnite remains a vibrant and dynamic gaming experience for its global audience.

Epic’s new deal with Telefónica highlights the company’s strategy to adapt and grow in the mobile gaming space. With Fortnite leading the charge and other games like Fall Guys and Rocket League Sideswipe expanding their mobile presence, Epic is poised to make its titles more accessible to millions of players. This partnership is just one step in a broader effort to reshape mobile gaming, with more exciting developments likely to follow in the coming years.
