Fortnite Confirmed for Nintendo Switch 2 with Major Performance Upgrades

Fortnite fans on Nintendo platforms have something big to celebrate—Epic Games’ global hit is officially coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 with a new and improved version launching day one alongside the console on June 5, 2025. Revealed during the latest Nintendo Direct: Switch 2 Edition, the upgraded port promises much-needed performance enhancements that could finally elevate the Fortnite experience on Nintendo hardware.

The original Fortnite release for the Nintendo Switch, while wildly popular, has long suffered from performance issues. Players have consistently pointed out problems like low frame rates, muddy textures, laggy input response, and downgraded visuals compared to versions on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC. While Epic did roll out some optimization patches over the years, fans have been clamoring for a more competitive and visually polished version—and now the Switch 2 looks poised to deliver.

With improved specs like support for up to 120fps and 4K resolution in docked mode, the Nintendo Switch 2 opens the door for a much smoother and visually richer Fortnite experience. Though full details are still under wraps, early footage shown in the sizzle reel during the Direct hinted at better lighting, sharper textures, and more stable performance—all of which set social media ablaze with excitement.

Epic Games and Nintendo have yet to detail the exact feature set of the Switch 2 version of Fortnite, but fans are hopeful it will be on par with other next-gen versions of the game, especially now that titles like Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition, Cyberpunk 2077, and Final Fantasy VII Remake are also confirmed for the new console.

Players are encouraged to download the dedicated Switch 2 version of Fortnite at launch. According to Nintendo, running the legacy Switch version on the new hardware may cause unexpected issues—Fortnite was even listed among the games that may not fully optimize when transferred directly from the older device.

As Fortnite continues to evolve with new chapters, collaborations, and game modes, this Switch 2 upgrade could mark a fresh chapter for portable battle royale gameplay. With the console and game launching together in June, we can expect more details and footage to drop in the coming weeks as Epic gears up for a big summer debut.
