A blast from the past is making a return—Platypus, the classic Xbox 360 shoot ’em up, is getting a full remake titled Platypus Reclayed, and it’s set to arrive in 2025. Originally released as a PC game in 2002, the quirky side-scroller made its way to consoles through Xbox Live Indie Games in 2009. Now, Claymatic Games is bringing the game back for modern platforms, including PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Switch.
While Platypus didn’t reach the same iconic status as other shoot ‘em up titles, it did gain a loyal fanbase during its run. The 2002 release was initially a PC-exclusive, developed by Squashy Software and published by Idigicon. It later made a move to PSP in 2006 before landing on the Xbox 360 in 2009. A sequel, Platypus 2, followed in 2007. However, over time, the series faded into obscurity—until now.
Claymatic Games, led by original Platypus designer Anthony Flack, has announced Platypus Reclayed will feature updated gameplay, new weapons, and additional content. The official description promises an immersive experience with Platypus Reclayed offering 4K widescreen support and the ability to play both solo or with friends in co-op mode, with options for both shared and split-screen gameplay.
The game takes place in Collosatropolis, a city plagued by pollution, with its citizens seeking refuge in the neighboring city of Mungola. Players will control the F-27 “Platypus” squadron, the last line of defense against the incoming threats. The remake has been completely reprogrammed to take advantage of modern hardware, ensuring smoother performance on today’s consoles compared to its original 360 release.
Fans of the Platypus series are sure to appreciate the updated visuals and gameplay enhancements. The game will be available across major platforms, including PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. Interested players can already add the game to their Steam wishlist ahead of its 2025 launch.
With the shutdown of the Xbox 360 marketplace earlier this year, nostalgia for the beloved console still runs strong. Platypus Reclayed is the latest in a string of remakes of classic Xbox 360 titles, joining other revamped games like Lollipop Chainsaw and Shadows of the Damned. As collectors and fans continue to cherish their Xbox 360 consoles, remasters like Platypus Reclayed offer a welcome return to familiar worlds.
Platypus Reclayed promises to be a thrilling ride for long-time fans and newcomers alike when it hits stores in 2025. Keep an eye on upcoming news and be sure to add it to your wishlist!
